Database System Management

Academic Year : 2019-20 T.E. Semester I

A database management system (DBMS) is a software package designed to define, manipulate, retrieve and manage data in a database. A DBMS generally manipulates the data itself, the data format, field names, record structure and file structure. It also defines rules to validate and manipulate this data.

Educational Opportunities in DBMS :

In any company, database technology is considered as a significant business asset. It is a tool that can help in determining the future direction of a company. In current times, true value of a business can't be realized without using this technology. Businesses have been transformed by embracing database technology which can be used to find a wealth of data and information. It is now being used in monitoring various business functions. One such area is mining customers buying patterns. The scope of careers in database technology has grown immensely. The most commonly pursued professions are as database analysts, administrators and engineers. The analysts are actually the bridge between the unstructured data to structured information. The administrators ensure that systems are operating efficiently, backing up and storing data properly, generating secure information and maximizing database uptime.  Database engineers ascertain that the database management systems can discover, integrate, analyze and disseminate the information as intended. The average salary of a database technology practitioner ranges from 20,000 to 120,000 US dollars per annum depending on the career level in the hierarchy.
